home with a sick kid

Posted on September 29th, 2005 by dandavis

So, here I was at home with a sick kid. He's eating lunch and watching Blue's Clues. So what should I do? How about some poker at the usual spot? Sure, why not?

So, I find me a little $5.00+$0.50 NLH tourney with re-buys. It's noon… tourney starts at 12:30, so I grab me some lunch too.

I try to play very tight, but sometimes I get hands that I just have to play! I bust out once and re-buy. That's all, I promise…

Just before the break, I'm under 1500 so I re-buy again. I actually get a good set of cards and go up to about 11k. Then I add-on at the break for an extra 2000 chips. So the real fun begins with me at about 13k.

And, so, the fun begins… I won't take the time to explain all of my plays. I'll only say that when I finally get pocket pairs 99+ someone else invariably had AA! But, 4 hours and 32 minutes later I bust out with… well, just read my last statement. I bust out in 29th place… but, at least it was in the money!

Parker (2.9 yo) has been "drawing" for a while now… but, as far as I am aware, this is his first recognizable drawing! It's a beautiful picture of Mommy(?)… or, it could be Daddy(?)… ah, hell, it don't matter who it is, it just looks good.

I have been on my diet almost 3 months now so I figured it was time to get some blood work done to see how that looks. (Rather upset with myself for not having it done when I first started the diet.) On the right, in the sidebar, you'll see a section labeled "my health info". I plan to keep that updated with current weight and blood chemistry info. I don't care for the layout atm. I am planning, at the very least, to graph my weight loss… it's more dramatic when you can see it on a pretty picture. :)

See what I mean?

ok, here's the deal…

I know that I don't have too many people coming by, but those of you who do stop by need to start helping me out… I noticed speeling errors in my last two posts (I am too lazy to go back to earlier posts…). So, please, if you see any anything rong, feel free to drop me a line.

Yes! Yes! Yes!

I know… it's still for small stakes, but I finished first in a SNG! Won mehself $10.80. Some of you out there would subtract the entry fee from the prize to determine my actual winnings, but don't make that mistake! The $1.75 to enter was spent for entertainment… the $10.80 was gravy!

Yes, I know it's late. No, I don't have insomnia nor did I stay up for any purpose. I worked last night (11p – 6a) and then slept too long during the day… now I'm not tired. What's a dude to do?

Play some poker, that's what! I'm still down in chips lifetime @ PokerStars.com, but, for once, I finally finished a SNG in the money! Granted, it was a small stakes table ($1.50+$0.25), but it's still cool to win actual money ($2.70 in this case).

time for another tourney

Posted on September 14th, 2005 by dandavis

It's almost time for another charity tournament at PokerStars.com.

And, 28 minutes later it's over… for me at least. My AQ of spades couldn't hold up against a JKo. The board flopped a 9JQ rainbow. The turn is a J… I got two pair. Oh hell, "All-In!"… he calls and I see his set. And the final insult is a K on the river to turn his simple set of Jacks into a set of Jacks full of Kings. But, hey! It was fun and I get to go to bed at a decent hour… unlike Monday night!

I was never big into poker through high school and college. But, here I am. 10:55 PM doing pretty well in an online charity tournament on PokerStars.com. I started at table 121 with 8 of my closest friends and $1,500 in chips. I went up (~$12k), I went down (~$500), but I left the table for #204 after 1h 15m with about $7500. Out of a starting field of 2212 (and $22,075.76 going to the Red Cross), I am currently in the top 434.

11:00 pm/After 1h 30m, I'm in the top 300 with $6,925 in chips. They're dropping like flies. Most likely a lot of railbirds, but it's still fun to watch the number dwindle. :)

11:06 pm/At yet another table (#170) with 246 left in it. Still at $6,925 chips… and no cards worth talking about.

11:25 pm/I've lost of track of how many tables I've gone through… the field is down to 179 right now. I'm at table #141 in 129th place with $7,775.

11:31 pm/I'm all in Aces and 10s… and I'm busted against 3 10s. I'll take 148th out of 2212 in my first tourney. I have another one Wednesday night.
