it's not my biggest win, but it feels good. Unfortunately, I ended up in the red for the night since I didn't look closely enough when I signed up for a $1.20 NL SnG… I signed up for the Omaha table by mistake! The strategy for that game escapes me big time and I was quickly sent packing.

I love how fast PokerStars sends out these emails. By the time I can Alt-Tab to my email program, it's there waiting for me!

is there anyone out there?

What shall I talk about today? I don't know. I don't really have anything to say right now. I haven't played much poker due to recent travel plans and lack of time during the week. I'm sitting at a $1+$0.20 SnG at 'Stars right now… this deck is freezing me out of my chips. I am almost tempted to loosen up a little… someone else's 7To (7/10 is my birthday BTW) just won a nice sized pot. I had 7Th earlier in the BB and was delivered bubkis for my efforts… good thing it was free to see the flop. And, at just the point I told myself that I would play the Hammer the next time it was dealt to me, there was a somewhat Hammerific flop (72X)… will lightning strike the flop twice? Should I play the next Hammer dealt to me?

News Flash! Just won my first pot at level 3 with ATc. Somebody wish me some more luck please… too late. I tried to give the QJo a go and got wiped when Q9 caught his boat.

saw it, liked it, decided to blog it.

Saw this on Card Squad today.

What: WWdN Where's My Burrito? Invitational
Where:PokerStars.
When: Friday, October 14th. 4:00 PM EST
Password: monkey
Tournament number: 13722477
Buy-in: $10+1

This tournament is open to anyone who reads WWdN or WWdN:IE, or who happens to know that the password is monkey, including poker bloggers and cardsquad readers. :)

Unfortunately for me, I will be travelling with the family and most likely will miss this go 'round. Hopefully Wil can follow through with his plan to make this a regular game.

After saving and rereading that last line, I felt that I would need to make one addendum. It is unfortunate that I will miss the inaugural WWdN Where's My Burrito? Invitational, not that I will be travelling with my family.

bad beats

My luck slowly begins to turn… and towards the good end, too. I'm up to T8475 in a $3+$0.30 R after one re-buy. I should've known better than to do what I did next. I played aggressively with KK. Now, these re-buy tournaments are idiotic. Folks will go all-in wielding the Hammer (or worse depending on the flop). Stupid shit like that. I should've known better. KK. All-in. Come give me a big kiss, Lady Luck.

2 callers. One shows me QQ. Potential for pain there… with my luck, the f**ker will get QQX on the flop and end it quick. The next caller shows me, of all combinations… AA. Sonofaf***kingbitch! The next 5 cards helps none of us. I decide to cut my losses and run. Lady luck, you can kiss my bender, bitch!

The prize pool is going to be huge… at least $20k, probably more. I'm not sure that I want to find out. [FYI, the pool ends up at $22,473.]

And, since my luck is so great, I decided it would be a good idea to play a $5+$0.50 at the same time. I am having better luck… not good luck, but not bad luck neither. Made the first break down only 50 chips from the start (although I had been up to T3500 at one point).

Edit: Sorry, Lady Luck. Thanks for the 9 on the river so that I could trip over the AA on my way to doubling up (and then some). Sorry again. No! Screw you, Lady Luck! You put me All-In with KJs against TT. You leave us both cold on the flop and then give me K on the turn only to tear my heart out on the river by throwing out another T?!?! You are scum, Lady Luck.

the poker gods are not happy.

OK, so I sit down to a $1.50+$0.25 SNG at PokerStars. First hand, I am dealt QQ in LP with 3 or 4 callers before me. I go All-In to see how my luck would hold up. I was hoping for a caller and got one… TripleA76 shows me 66. Sweet. Thank you lady luck. Flop comes 6KK. Ouch. It's OK. I still have a chance. Turn shows me a 6. WTF?!?! Quad 6s? What kind of crap is that? The poker gods were angered by my aggressive play and punished me severely for my insolence. From here on out, I'm checking or folding unless I got AA… and then I am only calling. It is what the gods have requested of me. I will obey.

it's like he was talking to me

Saturday was not a good day for me where poker was concerned. At the end of that day, I was seriously turned off to poker. I know that it's not enough to keep me away for good, but it still sucked. Then I read Wil's post over at Card Squad. It puts my 24 hours of bad beats into perspective… I can't imagine turning that 24 hours into 14 (or more) days worth of losing. To play good, sound poker and get sucked out on like that hurts. Those are the breaks… but they can sure do a number on an already limited bankroll. As is life. The hardest part is going to be finding the motivation to get back in the game and take the hits. As with life.

new post

OK, probably a bad idea, but I couldn't stand the thought of ending the day like I did… so I found me a cheap tourney… $3+$0 w/re-buys satellite. Get placed at a table with players of questionable strategy and intelligence… All-In on every hand regardless of their cards… unfortunately, it often times works for them. F'ing BS. I go all-in myself with ATo… get called by two others… they have junk but one of them flops two pair! WTF! First and only re-buy. At this point, I'm up to 5725 chips after going all-in with 55, making the set on the flop and quads on the river. From here on out it's tight, clean poker for me. If Lee's book says to fold it, I fold it. Period.

So far, so good… up to 7090 after my TT held up against AKo… I flopped the set, but that was gravy as the other fella never improved.

At the first break, I'm down to 5640 after a couple of bad beats where my AKo or AQo couldn't catch any love on the flop. I go ahead and add-on 2000 more chips. At this point, there are 469 (out of 650) seats left. There have been 1331 re-buys and 356 add-ons bringing the total prize pool is up to $7,011 with 32 entries into Sunday's tournament. Here goes nothing…

For the record, I hate the river. My QJo flopped two pair. I'm all-in against a short stack. He catches running diamonds for the Ace-high flush. I'm down to 3665.

And my luck officially stinks. Might have some details in the AM… or, I might just forget the whole day and start fresh…
